My san pedro prep meathod
    #2942112 - 07/29/04 10:18 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

hey guys, I just did a small extraction of a san pedro and id like to share my experience. I did one other extraction before this using a food processor but i realize now a blender works just as well if you start small and slowly feed in chunks. So here we go

start off by cleaning cactus, water will do soap if needed.

A few extra hands helps with this part, chop into 1" cookies then cut out woody center then chop into small 1" chunks. Throw 3-5 chunks into your blender and get them started on low then go to high. Slowly feed in more chunks one by one until its filled then allow it to run for a min by itself. It should look like this now,

Pour the slurry into a towel in a bowl and squeeze out the foam and juice. re blend the pulp and repeat one to two more times.

This is whats left from about 8" of pedro after the foam settles,

What? This is only 7-8" worth. I tried to root a 4' cutting but it got overwatered outdoors and started to rot. I choped off the bottom and im allowing that to re heal then ill try rooting again once it heals.

Ive rooted pedro before but last time it was indoors. Being outdoors i had no control on watering and its a big pedro so its hard to move by myself in and out when it rains.

I still got 200ml of slime, so 3x more i would have had 600 ml of slime and thats enough for a nice trip. There arent much solids or liqiuds lost, you can even pre soak the towel in water so you dont loose slime to the towel.

Nice, glad to see your pictures. I love it when someone takes the time to show us how to work with entheogens with pics, good job.

You have probably already seen this tek: http://www.entheogen.com/articles/2004/mjcac.html but I thought I would offer it for those who haven't.

Cooking the plant matter helps to break down and destroy the plant's cell walls, thus releasing mescaline contained within the cells. The addition of lemon juice also breaks down cell walls.

I'm sure neuro could elaborate on this a bit more.

Ok, well by blending it i mechanicaly broke the sell walls and ened up with a pulp. I just feel boiling it breaks down the mescaline.

The idea in doing stuff that breaks down walls is to lyse cells and also lyse the vacuoles that are in the cells as many plant pigments and plant alkaloids are bound up in the vacuoles. That's why many people tell you to pressure cook the shit out of it and freeze and thaw it several times.

The acid may help in breaking down walls but the main purpose of acid in an extraction turns the alkaloid bases into acid salts so they become more soluble in water.

Your feelings are unfounded. Mescaline is rather stable so heat from boiling will not harm it. It will, however, allow more mescaline to be extracted from the cactus when you are not using a solvent to do so.

Well i dont have much left over from the process, just a pastey pulp with spikes. Also cooking is time consuming. I just find this meathod quick and easy.

If you really don't want to boil it, another way to break down the cell walls is to freeze and thaw the material several times.

>>I just feel boiling it breaks down the mescaline.

People have started to way over generalize with drugs these days. Psilocybin is sensitive to heat because it has that Phosphate group on it that will leave quite easilly when subjected to any sort of energy. LSD is quite a huge molecule and very subject to absorbing energy since it has conjugated double bonds and quite a huge infrastructure for a side chain. That'll eventually meet it's demise too.

Mescaline however is quite small and simple and contains no groups or side chains that are good leaving groups with respect to the amount of energy it would take to remove them. Therefore it survives intact.

Taste this pulp.

If it still tastes like mescaline (bitter, alkaloid-ish, very close to the taste of MDMA) which i bet it does, you'll have to boil it and strain it. Until it doesn't have any taste left.

If there isn't a substancial alkaloid amount left, the pulp will just taste like boiled apples, with no bitter taste whatsoever...

When i prepared cactus to make syrup for an extraction, after blending i had to boil the pulp twice for 4 hours, before the bitter taste went all to the tea.

It's very hard to remove alkaloids from cactus tissue...

But its only about a tablespoon of pulp. I guess i should boil it with a larger extraction but this ones not worth it for an extra teaspoon of liquid
