second flush problems
    #2941013 - 07/29/04 04:35 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

afoaf's second flush fruits on casings aren't pinning/growing at the same rate as the first flush. a couple bigger fruits have emerged and been harvested but the remaining few fruits are skinny and small. air exchange, humidity, and temperature have remained the same through both flushes.
i believe i've read that the second and third flush are heavier yielders than the first flush. can anybody w/ experience confirm this? h202 and h20 were added to the casings for approx. 24 hours and then drained out after the first flush ended.

Ouch I really dont see the need in drinching the casing so much with Hydrogen peroxide tha tyou have to drain it off :frown:. Anyways the second flush should still be substantial if you kept it moist enough. After the first flush the mycelium needs more water If that wasnt replaced im sure failure is soon behind.

I dont think its the consensus that second and third flush are heavier yielders than the first flush. In my experience the second flush is usually smaller or at most the same as the first flush. Then the third flush gets significantly smaller and contams start to pop up after the third flush.

From what I've seen 2nd flushes can produce and often do bigger fruits th en first flushes but the total yeild usually isn't as high.

Yes, "the second flush is bigger rule" pretty much only applys to outdoor grows.

you said that an h202 solution shouldn't be used for dunking? what should be used for dunking, regular tap water? the casings shrunk a bit so i'm sure they need more water after each flush.

I used plain old tap water in a big contaner and then usualy keep the mycelium in the water by placing a plate on top of it.

oh, i just poured the water into the casing container...it wasn't much water, about 1/3 the height of the container. is that not adequate?
