The fuzz is not covering the entire cake. It's at the top of the cake and is about one inch thick at one point. It looks fuzz and bright white and bumpy. I do beleive that it's hyphel knots, but are these always fuzzy or do they turn solid when pinning procedures are initiated. I left it go for a while so maybe I'm late on the pinning. Is that ok?

as long as it stays in an isolated area and seems to be gaining density, I do believe they are just knots...they look like little cotton swabs, right?

Have you flipped your jars? Knots are extremely common soon after flipping because of the introduced oxygen..

try putting a little h2o2 (pure) onto it. If it sizzles (listen closely, and look for bubbles) then it is a mold of somesort, probly cobweb, although i've never heard it growing on cakes. Better safe than sorry.
