who won the moore vs oreilly debate?
    #2937692 - 07/28/04 07:07 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

i have read a crapload of articles about the face-off and have come to the conclusion that moore won the debate. all the articles admit (and i agree from what i saw) it was a back and forth exchange about bush lying. oreilly was saying it wasnt a lie, but a mistake. then moore caught oreilly when he asked him if "we made a mistake, we're sorry" was a good enough explanation to the parents of the dead soldiers. oreilly agreed that it was not a good enough explantion and that there were mistakes made....moore never conceeded to one of oreilly's points. moore isnt even a strong debater like Al Franken, proving bill is a douche when confronted with someone who is comfortable on camera and will talk shit to him. i believe that crap spewing jackass Sean Hannity would have destroyed moore.

there's a link in KOTT's original thread about it here
in PAL by sirtrips that has the link to the video.

I watched it.

O'Reilly was right, on Moore's point, Bush did not lie,
unless someone can prove that he knew better when
he said the things that Moore is calling out as a lie.

What baffles me is why Moore doesn't call Bush out on
the specific lies....keeping things in the SOU that had
already been disproven, suppressing the data about the
prescription drug benefit so that it would pass...that
sort of stuff.

Basically, I don't think either of them really made any
valid points or arguments, it was a rather sophmoric
discussion.

Both were far from "winning."

Moore however proved his ignorance while O'Reilly proved he does have a shred of self restraint.

edit: missing the word "have"

Was what I was thinking commie, Moore always had to fall upon theoretical situations, never really giving any facts for his basis, and like O'Reilly pointed out, it all comes to the WMD's. They cant prove he lied, its learning your enemy wasnt in the wrong like you have been thinking them to be.

I remember my friends asking a recruiter for the Army if he was going to be sent to war if he joined. The recruiter said "No."

Isn't that the dumbest thing ever?

The dumb thing was your friends question. What was the recruiter supposed to say?

I don't believe for one second that they promised you that you wouldn't go to war. What do you think an army is for?

I've actually heard this more than once. Recruiters are known for lying to meet their quotas. They usually aren't so blatant, just remaining vague so they can get out of it. A potential recruit should get anything they promise you in writing.

My recruiter imbelished more than lied. He made my job in the Army more interesting than it really was. That could of been my fault but never once have I ever heard any recruiter say that those joining would never go to war. (my brother in law was a recruiter for the marines).

That's like saying you'd join the swim team if they could promise that you wouldn't have to swim.

I would agree this sounds absurd, it's just that I've now heard three different sources say the same thing.

i'm not defending the recruiter but i'd question those 3 people. They're not going to tell people that they will go to war or even reference it if there's a chance that they will go. If there's anyone in America right now that thinks that they won't have a chance of going to war if they join the Army then they are probably the same boobs who were shocked to find out that smoking actually is bad for you.
