Nope I'm sure it's not that, but good guess. The other jars had it worse and it only showed up at the innoculation points. It wasn't an agressive contam at all out of 10 jars 9 had this contam some a lot worse than others. It appeared as small yellow specks at first then turned into a sulphur looking contam. The jar I used for the dung colonized very fast and there was only a tiny bit of the contam at one spot. In many of the jars the mycellium was killing the contam and colonizing over it, so it was a very weak one. Do you think it will be safe to eat the shrooms, the dung is colonizing nicely and looks perfectly healthy and white

i don;t think i've come accross that contam' yet. although in the past i thought i must've had them all! if the shrooms are healthy i see no reason not to eat them. it sounds like they'll come on fine, although they might contaminate early seeing as how there was somethinmg hovering in the background? one thing i have learnt tho, is to get more jars going as soon as i can. it's a pain sometimes but it's more painful for me being in limbo with nothing happening.

Ok my question- Is it ok if there is a lot of condensation in the ziplock containers with the horse dung. The inside walls are totally covered with condensation but there are no puddles, should I cover the little holes or leave them open? How do you judge the correct moisture content for dung after you pastuerize it? Barely dripping water if you squeeze it??

let me see if i understand this jeelix. you have a cake, pf style i assume? you put it in a ziplock with horse dung? it's colonising nicely, so it must be o.k.? if it starts to get the yellowy piss then it would be too wet i think. you are going to case the colonised shit/cake? from my understanding (i'm not an expert, although i've done a few) you need the bulk substrate plenty moist, but like you say not dripping. if it's enclosed like that, and i think it needs to be, it will get lots of condensation so that sounds o.k. too. hopefully someone with more experience will come to our rescue and tell me if i'm right or wrong, however it seems to me like you're doing it right. keep the thread going and let us all know how it ends up.
