Does anyone know if a package that is shipped from london needs to be signed for when received in the US, or if they will give the box to the house without anyone signing for it? What if someone will take it for a roommate but will not sign for it themselves, and the roommate isn't home? Will the person give it to them?

Most of the time, you will need to sign for it. Any overseas package has to go through US customs. Responsibility needs to be accepted for the package and for any customes duty fees.
Also if the sender put a value on the package, you will almost definitely have to sign for it.
And, whomever signs for it takes responsibility for it, wether its a roomate, friend, parent, etc. It may be your package but if someone else signs for it, they too can be held liable.
Good Luck, Lana

I've never signed for an overseas package except once and that's because the sender specfically requested it. even with live cacti and the like, never had to sign. keep the value below $10 and there's no duty (actually a little higher i think $14 but to be safe i always write $10)

When I was in the states, I ordered overseas a couple of times and don't recall having to ever sign for anything... though all the packages came US postal, donno how that changes things...
In the caribbean, I have a broker which handles all my customs and duties for me, so again, I sign for nothing unless the sender requests signature verification upon receipt.

Since an overseas package has to go through customs, will they open it? and, does anyone know of a service from london that would be best to ship through, or if I can just drop a small package in a mailbox?

You're just asking for trouble trying to send fresh shrooms from London. Maybe you should go into the news service thread and see what is being done over there concerning the fresh shrooms. They're not being looked on as fovourably as they once were. It's alose lose situation friend. Learn how to growm 'em and grow 'em. Tha way you dont have to worry about customs opening packages. Chances are they wont open them but what if they do, which they can? Is it worth having a felony on your record? You must be kinda young, right? Not a bad thing but I wish that you would think about the consequences before attempting this. good luck again!!!!
