those are some low humidity readings. are you trying to fruit cakes or casings? if its casings your humidity should be around 85-90 and if its cakes then you should go for a bit higher.

THIS temp IS IN THE ROOM NOT THE CHAMBER.i am not going to be using any sort of heat source or an air pump, thats why i stated the temp of the room im fruiting in. using perlite on bottom w/water wire mesh just above perlite cakes on tinfoil on mesh.?is this right or is there a better way.also i got rubbermaid "clear impressions" almost clear top ,is this ok or do i need the plexiI KNOW I AM A PAIN IN THE ASS BUT IM ALMOST THERE!JIM

magash has a great thread going on in one of the cult sections. it's called the poor mans pod. i think you should take a look at that setup. but if you decide to just stick with what you have then it's ok except for the humidity. you need to keep the humidity up around 90-95 like TODAY stated

the temp in the room shoudnt matter at all so long as the temp in the champer is 85 during inubation and 75 for fruiting with 80-90% humidity ie it could be -100*F and if in the chamber it was 85*F you will get growth at the same speed as if it was 80*F out side the grow box

and the best way to grow is to case the cakes at the humidity isnt so important with caseings as with cakes if the whole box is clear you want to black out the parth with the caseings and the lid should be good enough for the light you need

Since you are going to use perlite, Im sure that your humidity will be fine. 87 degrees for temp is a little on the high side though. I would recommend trying to keep it below 80 for fruiting. you'll see better results.

FIRST OFF THANXS FOR THE RESPONSES.well im kind of hoping the temp of the room will dictate the temp in the chamber(is this a crazy thought?).I am going to stick to the cakes.this is my first time.should the sides not let light in for the cakes?i want to keep the airtight lid on ,right?i am to fan three times a day right/and mist the sides how many times a day?and how risky is dunking?

I have always been a fan of the old PF "two chamber terrarium" but make it with a rubbermade tub as tall as you can get. 1/4" wire mesh to keep em off the bottom. Hand spray or plumb an ultrasonic humidifier on a timer (much trickier for a first timer). With those warm temps, the blast shield is a great place to set small bags of ice at night to drop the temps in the tub and induce pins, (once per flush).

for the lid, factory rubbermade lid, just cut a good sized hole and tape some clear plastic sheeting over it with duct tape, tape both sides.

the blast shield is the diagonal piece of plexi inside the terrarium

http://www.shroomery.org/index/the/default/par/23593/pag/4

here is the basic explanation.

I used a rubbermaind, not an aquarium, but same principle.

This is a sterlite 90 qt. Holds 12 to 14 cakes.
This is what I got growing in it.
Listen to mycopsycho don't give up. My 1st 2grows didn't produce a thing.The 3rd time did. :goodluck:

that's right, persistence is key when it comes to growing mushrooms of any type. even if you don't get any mushies out of it the first time (or second) it's not a total failure. you actually learn a lot even when a grow does fail.
