Website help
    #2935955 - 07/28/04 12:57 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Okay, I can't think of anywhere else to post this, so I'm going to ask the knowledgable people here.

I can't access any page which starts with the address http://shroomery.org...
I can access the pages under http://shroomery.com...
Also, if I change the address of any link on the message board to remove the "www." from the address, I am able to access the page without a problem.

This is really a hassle, as I have to copy any link and alter the address in the address bar. To login or post, I have to copy the source and change the button code.

The error message I get is as follows:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.0.49 (Gentoo/Linux) PHP/4.3.6 Server at irc.shroomery.org Port 80

Its not my browser, as I have tried IE, Netscape, and Opera, all with the same results.  Its also not my ISP, as I can access it fine on the other two computers on my network (I use a router).

What the hell could be causing this???
If anyone could help, I would be eternally grateful.

I have to admit your problem is pretty weird. Your requests are being directed to which is our IRC server, but I'm not really sure why. Here's something you can try:

Open the file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in a text editor.

If there is already a line in there for www.shroomery.org, delete it and save the file. That should probably fix things.

Otherwise, add this line to the bottom of the file: www.shroomery.org

Then run this command:
ipconfig /flushdns

I hope this helps, please let me know!

Its only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything.

You got the gun, I got a plant. Who's the criminal?

Now I can use the Shroomery without a bunch of hassle.

Thank you very much, all I had to do was remove that entry from the hosts file.
I have no idea why that was there in the first place.
