The jars are each a half pint. I checked the capacity using a measuring jug. I'm not sure the capacity of the pc but it fits four jars easily. I am going to construct a poor man's pod for a terrarium. I put a link somewhere in this thread.
How long will I have to wait to see if the spores have been innoculated properly? I'm anxious to see if I've messed it up or not. I've decided not to build a terrarium until I have some evidence that this is going to work.

If at all possible, you should try to not look at them until a week has passed. By then the growth should be substantial and you will have concurred the worst part of shroom growing, waiting. Good luck with your grow.

Today I just got back from a week at my girlfriend's house and looked at my babies for the first time in about a week. There has been quite a lot of growth since I last looked. A couple of the jars are coming on nicely but I think I have lost 2 to contaminations. These jars had way too much water in because they were the first ones I did and I didn't judge it very well.
My Jars:

These are the ones that I think have contams:

This is probably the most developed jar:

Some more pics:

And here is my incubator (?):

Oh, and by the way, when do I take the foil off?

i say go ahead and take it off, you may see a slight increase in growth because once you remove the foil the jars get better air exchange. the dry verm layer on top will filter out any in-coming contams through the inocc. holes on the lids.
BTW looking good man time to build a PmP!

Today I went to B&Q and got some more stuff. I have started collecting resources for my fruiting chamber. I got a big plastic container with a semi transparent lid from B&Q and I got an air pump, tubing and air curtain from the pet shop. I am hoping to get a second pump from my girlfriend as she used to have a fish tank. I cannot find geolite/expanded clay pebbles, but I can easily get perlite. Is it ok to use prelite instead of the clay pebble things?
Also, my best jar is coming along quite nicely. Here are some pictures:

Yes, perlite will work just fine, but the clay pebbles are so much cleaner and easier to work with (not to mention they look much better if you're into looks like I am).

I need some advice now. I'm not sure whether these jars have contaminations or not. They look odd, but it might just be because I put a little too much water in them. I don't know whether to A) throw them away B) birth them with the rest of my cakes C) birth them somewhere else to prevent further contamination D) Stop being paranoid
I would really appreciate it if someone could look and see whethewr they think they are contaminated.
Thank you.

Today I brought some geolite from the garden centre. I came in a packet saying hydroluca. When I got back I drilled 2 holes in the side of my pod. Although I only have one air input at the moment I plan on adding a second one, hence the second hole. I fed the tube off the air pump through the hole and connected it to an airstone. I then poured the geolite over the top of it. The pod is nearly finnished. Next I ned to get more airstones, another pump and a humidity gauge.

This has got to be my favorite grow log I have read on this site. I absolutely love how you go into great detail. I finally understand the process of growing mushrooms better.
Oh and what's "B&Q"?

>>show us a good cake ok!
>>Oh and what's "B&Q"? B&Q is a diy shop. It sells wood and light fittings and tools ect. It also has a gardening section with plants and vermiculite and soil and stuff like that. I've decided that I'm going to get the pod up and running today and put the wet cakes in it to see what happens. I'm hoping they will dry out a bit and fruit many mushrooms, but I doubt it somehow. Do I need to bake the geolite first? And do I need to rinse off the dust?

yeah, wash it and sterilise it if possible. boiling water or a microwave are better than nothing.
so how many cakes do you have like the good ones, and how many like the suet pudding?
