I did the same damn thing with my quarts...I used birdseed, and since I preboiled it, I figured it wouldn't expand any more during sterilization, but sure enough....my grains aint going nowhere.

I did five jars...two of these I broke up the birdseed "cake" by banging ridiculously hard with my palm and against a table until my hand hurt. I shook the living shit out of those jars....we'll see what happens.
The other three I left as "cakes" just in case.
It will probably be impossible for you to shake at this point, since the mycelium has already formed such a stong network...so I'll agree: go with the spoon.

I emptied my bladder
at the top of a tower
and pee'd on the earth below...

you could wrap the quarts in foil, apply a casing layer, and fruit right out of the quarts.
