SLIGHTLY UNEVEN SUBSTRATE.....PROBLEM??
    #2935456 - 07/28/04 05:12 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

inside my plastic container with substrate in, the mycellium is well on its way, but is more so on 1 side (only at the far edge) i think this is because at this end the substrate is a bit lower than the rest of it, making it a bit uneven. im told its important for this to be level but im reluctant to fuck about with it whilst the mycellium is forming, any1 help?

i have moved uncolonized casing layer around with a steralized knife with good luck
i use this method as an alternative to patching sometimes

patching is when you add more casing layer to promote even myc colonization on a casing and eventually a more even pinset

If you dont patch, you'll still get shrooms. Sometimes patching just increases your yields a little. Athough, my foaf finds that when he doesn't patch, his later flushes are much larger than usual even though his first was a little smaller than usual. His theory is that as long as no contams are introduced, the colony will amlost always produce the same total yield in the end. Ask God Magash, I dont think that he patches....happy shroomin!!
