Signs of pinning?
    #2933910 - 07/27/04 06:58 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I put my first casings in my fruiting chamber on Thursday. Cold shocked them thursday night (some ice in the perlite), immediately began fanning 3-4x a day, and put a very small flourescent grow light ontop of the chamber (it runs very cool). the light runs 12/12.

I am assuming the humidity is around 95%, i have a *small* bit of moisture on the walls of it. I have been too broke to get a hygrometer yet.

The casings are done with 60/40 coir/verm. I patched them after two days, and they are looking very even as far as the myc growth goes. the cold shock seemed to really slow it down a bit (it was growing pretty fast before the cold shock).

the casings have pulled away a millimeter or two from the sides, but still feel a little moist to the touch.

What signs should I look for right before pinning? what i am seeing is mycellum starting to grow straight up and form tiny *tiny* little cone type things. they really are no thicker than a pin though.

Those are called hyphal knots. Most of those will turn into pins sometime real soon. Good luck!!!

Hi!

How long does it usually take from pining conditions(light and fanning, fall of temperature) to pining? I am waitin for the Cambodia strain to start pin. I have made casing and immediately started to introduce air 3 times a day and light for a few hours a day. Now it's 9th day and the micelium seemed to stopped growing, although it's seen all over the surface, but it's not overlay. So, can it take more than 10 days?

tnx!

Yeah, sometimes it can take 2 weeks or so to pin. Just be patient. Continue to give it air and light, and make sure that the humidity is not too high. :mushroom2:

quick update.. today is day six since I have initiated fruiting. the hyphal knots that started showing yesterday are much more abundant today. from a side view, looking across the top of my casing, it looks like tons of 3mm tiny "posts" comming out of it. there are hundreds on each casing.

There are a handfull of spots which look like early pins.. looks like the knots blew up, and are thicker and a bit taller.

I'm thinking tomorrow is gonna be an interesting day
