Wandering Cacti roots
    #2932840 - 07/27/04 02:00 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I have a few cacti which appear to be casting roots out of the small drainage hole in the bottom of the pots. Small roots. Not the main tap root. Was this due to the fact that they are not receiving enough water and so the roots where looking for a deeper source? I repotted them in larger pots. But now the pots are too big I think for the size of the cacti. Suggestions? Gracias.

How big are your cacti?

Putting a cactus is a pot that is too big will lead to overwatering and subsequently to rot. A few roots popping out from the bottom of a pot is a good thing for me. It tells me that the plant is healthy and developing strong roots.

I would re-plant the plants in smaller pots and let them recover from your panic attack  :crazy2: for a week at least. before watering them again.

Just a quick question kind of off topic, but if you cut some off of a root is that bad (if it's a clean cut)?
