Identification
    #2932187 - 07/27/04 01:19 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Hello Folks,

I have been looking for a picture of a Mushroom for some time. Iknow they are common, because they used to grow under my Large Pine tree before it was cut down.

The mushroom as a very STRONG odor. I can be 50 yards away, and smell these mushrooms. They are on a White Stalk. and the heads of the mushrooms look like a Males Organ (the only way to describe it, I am sorry). It is completely Hollow inside, and you can look straight down the top and see that it is hollow. The head of it is DARK brown, and very slimy.

Would someone help identify it, and link me to a picture?

Thanks a Million.

Dwayne

I believe your talking about some species of stinkhorn. I won't hazard a guess as to which one specifically. I'm sure you can do a Google search and come up with enough pictures that one of them will resemble what your thinking of.

Your description is fairly reasonable for a couple members of the genus Phallus (puns intended). To identify them we need to know what color the "eggs" are before the fruiting body emerges.

Happy mushrooming!
