Norway's work ethic.
    #2929591 - 07/26/04 05:56 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Talk about coincidence. I'm just finishing up the final touches on a beach erosion control project for one of the properties here in Cabarete. It happens to be on a stretch of the beach where a lot of kite boarders congregate to launch and just hang around shooting the shit. I've been talking to a group of Norwegian kiters quite a lot in the last month and a half -- mainly because the Norwegian women kiters are goddesses -- and I jokingly asked them how it was that they got so much time off work. What they told me dovetailed pretty much exactly with what the article I link below has to say.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2001988054_norway25.html

As a side note, Oslo is the most expensive city in the world to live in, beating out New York and Tokyo -- but only if you take rent out of the equation.

On an average day, about 25 percent of Norway's workers are absent from work, either because they have called in sick, are undergoing physical rehabilitation or are on long-term disability. The rate is especially high among government employees, who account for half the work force.

Am I reading this right? Half of the work force is employed by the government? That's insane.

Good for you!  You managed an angle to take a jab at Bush from an article about Norway's workers.  Your    work ethic is obviously not lacking.

That is insane. It is also a recipe for disaster when the oil runs out. What the hell though, let the good times roll. I thought it was a very interesting article.

Leave it to the "labor" unions to spin it so nicely.

The average Norwegian doesn't scratch his balls?

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

How hard are people/businesses trying to get out of Norway?
