has anyone ever bought a syringe and ended up getting one that had some myc growth in with the spores?

i would take that as a sign the spores are very vigorous, and will probably germinate very nicely and give you abundant shiitake harvests...

I would take it that there is some minor nutritional content to the water that they are suspended in thus allowing them to germinate. I'm not disagreeing with what you are saying, just wondering why you link vigor to this early germination.

Actually, he's right on about this.

I've only seen this happen with the very freshest spores.

It's not that uncommon either and it occurs no matter how thoroughly the water is distilled.
