Burma Strain Fruiting Difficulties
    #2928338 - 07/26/04 12:51 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I was just wondering if anyone has ever grown the Burma strain? I have grown quite a few strains in my time, but this one is giving me problems. The conditions inside the terrarium are optimal with frequent air exchanges and humidity from an ultrasonic unit. The mycelium grows like it should and I cased it properly using the hawk's super 50/50 recipe . The casings were put in the terrarium on July 2nd and were patch cased once several days after their birth. The mycelium penetrated the case layer, and last week, the mycelium formed the usual spike formations and in some places formed little fluff balls. The casing should have fruited by now, but nothing has happened . Any feedback will be appreciated.

Besides the non-fruitng characterists of my Burma Strain, I have to say this strain is the worst strain I have ever tried. Has anyone had any success with the Burma?

Also, I hope no one take offense to the dumb quote I put on my previous post, I just thought it was funny especially since it was said by frank zappa's father.

Damn bro I wish I could help you out, but I think Paw is right. Re-trace or just wait and see. Anytime I felt that something was wrong, it usually was. I take clingwrap place it over the casing and flip it over on my hand. Once in your hand you can lift it's case. If theres no contams, just be patient and carefuly put it back in it's case. If there are, well you know the deal. Be like a dog and go bury it. Good luck...

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that I put to much calcium carbonate in the casing material, becasue it was the first time I used the powdered CaCO3 with the usual crushed oyster shells. Also, I read that an excess of CaCO3 would cause the mycelium to not grow through it, but my mycelium grows through it but does not develop fruits. Has anyone experienced excess CaCO3 in the casing material? Or has a working recipe for casings using the crushed oyster shell and the powdered CaCO3?
My other guess is that it just takes a while for the fruits to appear.

I just discovered a contaminated casing, it had the green mold and white mold(cobwebb). I dumped it out and discovered a loarge amount of excess water. The other Burma Casing probably have the same amount of water. is it possible that the water could hinder fruiting?

Yes. Don't want to much or to little water. Just right.
