quik question about popcorn.

What ratio do u guys usually use for quart popcorn jars?
im talking just rinsed
then add them to jar
then add water
then pc.
i was planning a to fill the jar half full with popcorn then 1/4 full of water.
Does this seem ok?
Im planning to do millet the same way.

This method does not work as well as with other grains when using popcorn. When I did it I would simply fill the jar with popcorn and then fill with water to a level just above the corn, totally submerging it. You will need to experiment of course...

Using this method requires that you cook for a short time (15min) and shake the jars. Then resume the sterilization process. If this is not done you will end up with half exploded kernels, and half dry ones. Even if the kernels do not explode, the dry kernels will result in very weak growth and stalling. I also tried this method with strait white millet and ended up with a cornbread type chunk of exploded kernels in the bottom of the jar...

I recommend you simmer first (with popcorn), it is much easier, and popcorn is more forgiving than most smaller sized grains. Simmer until you just begin to see the shell split, then PC. Millet I recommend a simple 24+ hour soak and/or simmer...

ive simmered popcorn before and came up with bacteria. ill try it agin but this time ill strain longer.
