is bluing on a casing normal?
    #2927331 - 07/26/04 12:02 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

my foaf has a few casings that look very healthy, with pins, etc except for one thing...this morning the mycelium on the surface has a blue tint. does this mean there is a problem with humidity?

blueing can be due to bruising during the handling phases? were they picked up or pressed excessively hard in the blueing spots??

well i wouldn't worry about them but blueing is usually a sign of bruising.  good luck with them

Bluing on a the surface is caused by 2 things bruising #1 and #2 there dry. Thats it! Get that casing at near saturation ASAP wet but not dripping. To dry a casing will lead to many aborts bro and stall ya out quick  GL

On the other hand, blue is a good color. You're getting close.

for anyone interested...i think i figured out the problem. my foaf recently moved his fruiting chamber and when he set it back up, the hose connected to the coolmist (running 24/7) was aimed in a different direction. this blew the air directly onto the casings, obviously drying them out a little. he adjusted the setup and all is well...hopefully others can learn from his carelessness
