Todd:

Fire:

Todd~Fire:

This is what I have so far...what i want to do is extract the image of my brother and lay it over the fire image...

What's the best way to do it so I don't get the white spots and i can get a view of the fire through his arm that's holding the gun...

what i have been using is the magnetic lasso and i have to cut his arm and gun off and add it seperately to get it so i can see the fire...

any suggestions?

How did you get the white around Todd in the first place? His original picture had a dark background...

Anyway... from what you have so far, I would zoom in really close and work on getting that white out of there as much as you can. Then.. assuming that Todd and the fire are on two different layers select the Todd layer and using the marquee tool, draw a box around Todd. If you select the move tool (the one to the right of the marquee tool) and move Todd just a little bit, the selection will turn from a box to just around Todd.

Once Todd is selected go to "select" then "feather" enter 1 pixel and press OK.

Copy

Paste into a new layer and hide the other layer of Todd. If it doesn't work, try entering a higher pixel count when you're in feather. Don't make it too high or else Todd will become fuzzy. I'm sure you don't want that

That's how I would work on fixing that problem... Others may have different techniques, so keep asking around, see what others have to say... I hope it works out for you.

Good luck

Oh... one more thing. To get rid of the white... There is a tool in your tool box called "Edit in Quick Mask Mode" if you can't find it try pressing Q it should select it for you. If you use this you can select pixels by using the airbrush/paintbrush or pencil... whichever you prefer, it'll turn them red... This allows you to get into all the nooks and crannies that you'd never be able to get to with the lasso tool.

If you can't get rid of the white, I suggest remasking from the original with the dark background.

Just zoom in around the edges around him and brush it out by hand with a small brush. It should be pretty easy and not take that long if the feather technique samuel says dosen't work. After you do that, then take that same layer and mess with the Image -> adust, all the tools there for come color corrections, like brightness/contrast and selective color.

what i did was use the magnegtic lasso around todd in the original picture and deleted the background...and then lassoed him again and moved him to the fire pic...thats how i got the white...

is there a better way to extract todd out of the original picture, to get all of him and then put it over the fire...

i guess...how would you guys do it...get todd out of the original picture and then you would layer him on to the fire pic.

i tried some of your guy's suggestions but wasn't havin' much luck with it...i know i'm probably not doin' it right...

thanks for everyone's help so far...

This is what I have...and I took your advice...

Quote:

Samuel said:
select the Todd layer and using the marquee tool, draw a box around Todd. If you select the move tool (the one to the right of the marquee tool) and move Todd just a little bit, the selection will turn from a box to just around Todd.

and I outlined it with the Marquee tool and i then selected the move tool and it then outlined todd and I was able to just select todd and move it over to the fire pic...which is exactly what you said would happen and that's what i wanted...and i was so close and so happy it was workin'...

but then i was resizing the 2 pics to make it look right and now when i try and just select him through the marquee and move tool, it takes the whole rectangle, with white and todd that is made from the marque tool...and now i can't figure out how to get it back....

damn sheeite... :badcomputer:

um... This may be a little late, I'm sorry I didn't see your post last night.

If you open up the history... I think it's in Window. You should be able to back up. It's like Undo, but it goes back more than one step.

If the history didn't save when you saved last night, the only thing I can tell ya is that you'll have to do it again.
For the future, whenever you make a new layer or a new file, have the background transparent. it saves frustration in situations like this.

:peace: peace~

yes, i always work with a transparent background. haha, there should be one of those, "do you really want to do this?" dialog boxes for when you change to anything but transparent.

One way to do it is to open a new file and check off the box that says transparent. Then you can paste away... or, I believe that if you have the fire file open and paste todd in it should put him in a new layer with a transparent background all on its own.

What version of photoshop are you using?

Are you making a new file or a new layer...
if you're making a new layer then you're not retarded. It's not there. You'd have to make a new file.

You're probably just better off copying the outline of Todd and pasting it in the fire file. It should put him on a transparent layer when you paste him in there.
