Cleaning a CD
    #2926325 - 07/25/04 03:29 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

Anyone have some tips on what to use to clean a cd? I usually just wipe dirty ones down with tissue.. But what about minor scratches? I hear you can wipe dish soap into them and it will fill in the scratches. Does that really work? If so, what do I just rinse it off?

Any tips?

i heard of rubbing toothpaste will fix scratches...but i don't wanna try it, cause in case it doesn't work i don't wanna mess up cd's...i should try it on a crappy cd that is scratched and see if it helps.

They've got those machines in the mall that like buff them or something, takes the scratches off. I think you can buy em too, prolly cheaper to use someone elses though.

Water...just use purified water.
Also, you know those blue shop towels you get at the auto parts store.
Those work real good!

i use my shirt to clean dust and crap off but i'm sure that doesn't help scratches and puts minor ones onto the discs.

Wow thanks for the tips people.

I just called a local electronics store though, they said they have a 'cd rebuffering service', for $1 they guarantee it to be skipp free. (unless its already been buffed before.)

So I'm gonna roll over there and see if that works

umm, in like 5 minutes :stoned:

my man is my priority. I never said I didn't love this place. He now knows I post here and it doesn't bother him like I assumed it would.
Now I have my man and the shroomery, life doesn't get much better than that!

Hope your CD's get a damn good cleaning.
Ever try just using your toungue?
Then wiping them with a cloth.
That works as well!

my girl burns them! when they start skipping, she takes a lighter and just moves the flame around the disk real smoothyl. it works too...suprised me.
i have another friend who rubs deoderant on them and then wipes it off real easily. he uses the clear solid old spice stuff if that makes a difference. crazy huh?
