36 hours is a bit long... that's enough time for it to germinate.
btw if you soak you don't have to simmer.

12 hours of soaking WBS will suffice.
it shouldn't smell like vomit though...
If I were you I would get a new source of birdseed, soak for 12 hours, skim off floaties and PC as normal after letting it drain.
GL man,

Here's the best advice I can give you,
This is what's worked best for me;
Throw all the birdseed into a container of some sort, Pour in water until theres a few more inches of water than birdseed. stir it around a little and let it sit for 12 hours. When the times up skim the surface of the water to remove as many things that are floating as possible.
Next let it drain, it's important to let all the excess water run off.
Some kind of mesh screen is best to use for the draining. Then just load it into the bags or jars and pc.

If you soak you don't have to simmer. gl

My opinion differs from others that have posted here. I think that spore germination is a positive thing, that is one of the reasons that we soak our grains (the other being to get them to proper moisture levels).  Pour your grains into a colander and rinse them heavily with hot water. A sink with a sprayer works great for this. Use the hottest water that you can and spray spray spray those grain down. A lot of the contaminations will be washed away down the drain and those that remain will meet their maker in the pressure cooker. Might want to do a 20psi for 1.5 hours for those, just to make sure they are nice and sterile. You should be fine.

I actually recommend this rinse for all soaked grains. Soaking can get some of the starch out of the grains and that can cause them to bind up a little bit more when you do your shaking. Rinse and get off some of the spores and biological entities, then PC. Enjoy, let us know about your results also.

i soak my grain for about half that long and it usually does smell a little sour when the soak is done. a little bacterial endospore germination is a good thing. 36 hours is a bit long though, and maybe there's been too much growth. the seed may have even started to go through the chemical changes involved with seed germination. start over and soak for only 12-24 hours this time.

I still think you'll be fine. The smell you want indicates that the spores present on the grains have begun to germinate and form fungi, yeast, mold and bacteria. These microbes are easily destroyed with the combination of heat, pressure and moisture created with your pressure cooker. Rinse the grains off well with hot water, or in your case boil them, drain and use. Good luck.

Paul Stamets has zero posts here, you wouldn't trust him? :-)

Try it and tell me that I'm right, if you like.
