When to expose cakes to light?
    #2925191 - 07/25/04 01:52 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

After a cake is fully colonized with mycelium, should it be exposed to light still in the jar to start pinning, or should it be put into the terrarium first? The teks indicate that waiting for pinning in the jar makes best yields (from PF: "The best time to remove the fungus cake from the jar is when the primordia (tiny worm like structures with reddish heads) appear on the cake while still in the jar"), but will the pins form without light stimulation?

He is just trying to insure success but you can birth at 100% if fruiting on the cakes or wait 1 week to crumble for a casing. always remember to introduce all pinning triggers at the exact same time (simple) to get the most out of your flush! :wink:And remember your pinning strategy!!!: Getting the most out of your casings! A pinning strategy.

Yes, you can let PF style jars pin without birthing or put them into the terrarium after they have been fully colonized. However, they do need a certain amount of light to pin, as they are phototropic.
