Pinning a casing
    #2924591 - 07/24/04 10:48 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

My cat has a casing that he wants to sit in with cakes inside his poor mans pod. Will this work or will the humidity be to high? Room is a factor and having another tub along side of the PMP is out of the question. Is my cat on a quest for doom? -- in theory wouldnt this cut down on the amount of "misting" my kitty has to do since the poor mans pod is already pretty humid?

WHAT THE FUCK????? it took a few minutes to figure this thread out. If you( here kitty kitty) are using perlite in the bottom of your chamber then you are high on the humidity, very good for cakes because they can't hold much water to make huge flushes. Now about the casing. They don't need as much humidity because the deep bed and casing pervide alot of water for big shrooms and huge flushes. I belive the reason 100% humidity for casings is bad is because when your casing surface is constantly moist it leads to molds and such growimg on top. I have had success using a 30 gallon plastic tote with perlite and 3 casings in trays. I just made damn sure when I opened the lid everyday I checked the casing to make sure they wern't too wet. If they were, I left the top off for a couple hours. That seems to dry out the casing surface a little and keeped things in check. Remeber this.. Top 1/8 casing a little damp almost dry- bottom layers moist. Sounds silly and mabey my point is hard to explain. But experience is the best lesson.

One other thing..... If you use perlite in any container and keep it wet it will provide 98% and up humidty. I have nothin but great things to say about perlite. Shit I even spread it out on 3 2x8' shelves 3 inchs deep soaking wet and keeped a 6'x5' room ( sealed in plastic sheeting)high in the humidity!! Only draw back to that setup was the perlite had to be watered every day. Point is Perlite is the shit man!!!

Even with perlite you'll still need to mist! they can really suck up the moisture!!! (fact!)

Maybe you didnt read my question, Im not using perlite. Im using a poor mans pod (Magash) which already has cakes in it. Again the actual question is can i share the same fruiting enviroment with cakes and casings?

You shoud have any problems putting your casing in there. Ive dont the same with great success.
