I'll be shroom hunting the next few weeks in Amherst, Mass.

Hey everyone, long time no see.

I will be staying in Amherst, Mass. for the next few weeks and I wanted to know if there were any other active species besides the following:

Panaeolus subbalteatus
Gymnopilus spectabilis = G. junonius

I am staying near a college campus where there are many wooded areas. I can almost guarantee I won't find any but I figured I would have fun trying.

I will be posting pictures of my findings ASAP. I presently do not have the materials to make a spore print but I am planning to get them soon and post those as well.

Any additional information or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
ShroomNoob03

I have a question conserning Gymnopilus spectabilis.

When do these mushrooms usually grow?

One website I visited stated that they only grew from Early Fall to Mid-Winter while another site stated that they grew from Summer to Winter.

To make the question more specific, will I be able to find this species at this time of the year?

Thanks,
ShroomNoob03

Highly unlikely to find G. Spectabilis
this time of year... I live about 40 minutes
away and to the south.. And none of G. spec
spots are even close to fruiting... The only actives
you have a shot at this time of year..are
Pan subbs and ps. caerulipes... Good luck Nofindum...

Oh yeah and I found alot of A. muscaria var. formosa last
week but I'm not going there... I think they are on thier first
fruiting.. small specimens.... Nofindum...
