Animal intoxicants
    #2923047 - 07/24/04 08:41 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Ok now, I saw this very late last night so my memory is foggy. I saw a show on the Nature Channel(?) called "Weird Nature"(?). Last night's episode was about intoxicants that different animals take. It was fascinating. They showed cats getting tore up on cat nip and tigers(?) getting baked on some kind of other plant which makes them act playful and kitten-like. These cats were FUCKED UP. They were so fucked up they were drooling. Drooling like crazy.

They showed this muddy place where all kinds of animals go which they called a "detox" for animals who are too fucked up on whatever they're on.

They showed leamers who love alcohol and who steal alcoholic drinks from people at some beach every chance they get. They also showed what I think were leamers who take poisonous millipedes and rub the poison on their fur to keep away mosquitos as well as to absorb the poison to get fucked up on.

They showed a three-toed sloth getting ripped on some kind of leaf as well as all kinds of other animals getting fucked up on different plants. Some of them were hallucinogenic.

My favorite, which I was surprised to see, was when they showed different animals such as reindeer eating Amanita Muscaria. It was mentioned that people would drink the reindeer urine in order to get intoxicated on the Muscaria and even that the Santa Claus myth may have originated with Muscaria trippers. All that and so much more that i've forgotten was shown. It was a GREAT show.

the mud you are referring to is used by a lot of animals, specifically birds, that eat a fruit that is highly toxic. The mud protects and nuetralizes the poison itself, making the fruit eatable.

I think its a type of parrot mostly, but I cant remember exactly.

Yeah, parrots were one of the animals eating the mud which I believe has clay in it. Monkeys and other animals were also eating it.

Reminds me of when I was in Malaysia... There was a wild ape there which had gotten accustomed to drinking, so he would, much like as you described, run around trying to snatch drinks from people.

Isn't that wild?

It makes a case for considering the desire to alter consciousness as a natural mammalian appetite.

Really does, yeah. Though people using drugs in the first place is sufficient proof of that to begin with.

I had a neighbor who's dog would go apeshit everytime she heard a beer can opening. Total alcoholic. Died from a bad liver, prematurely.

Have you ever seen pictures of chimps, gorillas and what not at zoos that are addicted to cigarettes? Those are some fucked up images.

Yeah, I've seen a program similar to that myself.  The thing I remember the most was these elephants getting drunk on old melons that had fermented.  I guess they can be a problem when they get drunk and go on rampages through villigaes and crazy shit like that.

I guess everyone likes to get fucked up!
