is aluminum foil sufficient to cover a jar?

i was so happy to see my first jar moving along so well (nearly 50% after 5 days, at room temp none the less) and then.. BAM! it was contaminated by nasty green mold. i used aluminum foil as a lid and i'm wondering if this was a good idea or not? or could it be that i boiled the jar for to short a time period (1 hour)?

man you need to cover that jar with a real lid. get some plastic lids for storing jam jars. drill a 1 inch hole init and silicon some tyvek or run some polyfill through a small hole in a metal lid. this should be covered in the pftek if thats what your using. tin foil is mainly used to keep moisture from enter the jar during PC. the foil is used afterwards to keep stuff from getting to the filter and possible harboring mold. do some searching to find a tek on lids that best suit your needs. just plain tin foil is just asking for problems.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH ROFLMFAO YOU CRACK ME UP BRO AHAHAHAHA THE ALUMINUM SHOULD BE FINE IN SEVERAL INSTRUCTION MANUALS THEY RECCOMEND ALUMINUM FOIL ON TOP OF GLASSES IF YOU HAVE NO CANNING JARS I AM NEW TO SHROOMS BUT I JUST RECENTLY STARTED A BATCH OF MY OWN AND THEY SEEM TO BE DOING FINE LOL I HOPE THE SAME SHIT DONT HAPPEN TO ME.,GOD PLEASE DONT LET MY BABYS GET CONTAMINATED!!!

from experience, if you have a pretty sanitary environment, a foil cover and boiliing for an hour is sufficient. but to be sure, a nice long boil or pressure cooking and a regular lid is good.

i use foil.
