The Mars Volta

This band has quickly made it's way into my top 5 favorites list. I would describe them as psychadelic rock influenced by punk and salsa.. weird combo, but they're very unique and groovy.
If you're into bands like Tool, A Perfect Circle, Oysterhead, Black Sabbath, Incubus.. or just want to hear something different, you should check 'em out. You might dig 'em.

yeah, The Mars Volta seriously rock. I'm still kicking myself for having missed out on seeing the along with APC when they were here in Dallas. WTF was I thinking. Oh well. You can check out their video for Televators on their website. Very awesome vid.

They really grew on me. At first they were pretty good, but the more I listened to them, the more I loved them. They are definitely on my top ten now. Deloused in the Comatorium + head full of shrooms = bliss

I didn't get to see them with APC either. Really bummed me out. But hopefully I'll get some other oportunity to see em later. Bellylard: 'Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt' is my favorite song by them, always gets me pumped. 'Televators' is a bit mellower but still awesome. 'Cicatriz ESP', 'Drunkship of Lanterns' and 'Roulette Dares' kick some serious ass too.. I really love the whole album, it flows together like one long song to me, but those are my favorite parts at the moment.

I think when ATDI split up, some of the members formed The Mars Volta, and the others created Sparta. That's just what I've heard, anyway, I could totally be wrong on that.

TMV is fucking intense. I saw them a couple months ago at The Wiltern. I've loved them for about a year and a half now.
I can't handle them while tripping though, it's too much.

They have a new album on the way. Apparently it's going to be called Frances the Mute.
The Mars Mute - wookubus (7:46 PM PST 08/07/2004) The Mars Volta look to have decided upon "Frances The Mute" as the title to their upcoming new album. At present a release date has yet to be announced for the effort, though the artwork for it is once again being helmed by Storm Thorgerson, who also handled the artwork for the bands previous release. Tracks tentatively set to show up on the album so far include: "Frances The Mute" "Cygnus Vismund Cygnus" "El Viudo" "L' Via Le Viaquez" "Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore" "Cassandra Gemini" The bands line-up has also solidified in recent months and now features Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Jon Theodore (drums), Ikey Owens (keyboards), Juan Alderette (bass) and Marcell Rodriguez-Lopez (percussion). For now, a number of details have been released on a few upcoming vinyl editions related to the effort, you can read about them in the news and coming soon sections of www.goldstandardlabs.com.

The guitarist also has a solo coming out called A Manual Dexterity which is due out on the 31st of August. I'm keen to check it out.
