cool way to cold shock
    #2917864 - 07/22/04 11:18 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I did a quick search, and didn't see anything about this (doesn't mean its original by any means), so I figured I would post it and maybe it would be usefull to someone else.

My problem is that I don't have any room in my fridge to cold shock my casings. The casings take up most of the room in my fruiting chamber as well, so I didnt have room for like a hunk of ice.

Since this is the first time I'm using my fruiting chamber (finally got here a little over 5 weeks later) and I'm on a budget, I decided to just go with a perlite rubbermaid container.

To cold shock it, I first laid down about an inch of perlite. Then I laid down about 3lbs of ice directly ontop of it. I did the match on the amount of water that the ice would melt down to, and then removed that number from the amount of water I would need to add for the chamber to be a little moist. I sprayed it down with some h202, and then set the casings directly ontop of the leveled off ice!

What I have now is a very cold chamber, that will probably be that way for a good 12-18 hours.. hopefully enough time to give it a nice cold shock! No messy clean up either (until I have to deal with the perlite).

hope this helps somone else!

you could just do a tub in a tub with ice water, then just dump the water when its melted.
