Just made my first successful trip into the fields...I did some reasearch before i headed out and I know I got some of the 'right' kind....however I found some other interesting things....like these white things below....should I just leave these in the field next time?


Also I found a ton of mushrooms growing out of cow patties that were skinny, had no viels and didnt seem to blue...I left them in place because i was uncertain...should I just pick them next time and check the spores...thoughts?

The brown ones look kinda like cubes. Couldnt tell ya tho with the one picture. Check the identify faq thingy

Nice p. cubensis.. the others
I'm guessing are a species of
Lycoperdaceae... I'm guessing
L. perlatum considering If your
finding p. cubensis you must be in
a grassy area...To make sure they are edible
you should slice them down the middle to ensure
the flesh is supple and the texture of a firm,
marshmallow.."for lack of a better example"...
Here's a link for you to read up on them...
I have never eaten them personally but have heard they are
quite edible...

thanks for the heads up...after looking through the links provided I think your guess is right...what do you think about the skinny ones found on the patties..I dont have a pic but I'll get one later....whats the best way to test if they are magical or not...just see if the spores are blue?

I'll guess Pan. Antillarum for the long skinny ones. Cope. cyanescens look similar but will bruise.

pls read the stick on the top of the hunting forum, and in the future don't mix mushrooms together, take seperate pics of different genus, it seems anal, but it really helps alot to sort them out, you definately have some P. Cubensis, however I can't specifically tell you which ones are which because they are mixed and I have no way of pointing out all of the cubes b/c they are mixed together =P

I think its pretty easy to tell which are cubes. If he had a picture of an assortment of paneleouses(sp) maybe.Nice find anyhow They sure look yummy.

The white mushrooms are some species of Lycoperdon, probably perlatum, we'd have to see a close up picture of the "cap."
The brownish ones are Psilocybe cubensis(all of these should drop purple brown prints, bruise blue, and have a purple veil.)

I'd just like to comment the regulars on all the good advice they've been giving!  :thumbup:

I think you mean if the mushroom *bruises* blue not drops blue spores. Cubensis should drop a browny purple spore print like gumby said.

Had another successful trip today....been finding the cubes in lower areas of the pastures...typically close to water sources or marshy areas. They mostly are growing from patties that have grass now growing on them...the exposed patties seem too dry.



I also saw a bunch of mushrooms growing near or even on the same patties that I am not familiar with (I'm not familiar with a lot tho)
The stems are not hollow, but they are long and thin. The caps are very round...like half a ping pong ball...there is no veil and the viens are greyish in color..there is no bruising either. Taking a spore sample now....(see pics below)
