What do you guys use to help you get into the mood to release your energies into art?
And I mean any kind of "art", whether its artwork, music, writing, whatever.
I just find myself having a really hard time sitting down and concentrating on what I want to do - and I've been dying to make some artwork and express myself.. but I just can't do it. I thought maybe some music or something.. but I can't think of what. Maybe some techniques that any of you have?
Any suggestions would be great

i find that inspiration never comes when forced, sometimes creativity just flows a little bit better than other times ...

I find that simply exposing myself to other people's art for a while usually puts me in the mood..
For instance, if I'm listening to music for a while it makes me want to play my guitar.. and when I do, it's usually easier to apply some fresh concepts; ones that I may have subconsciously adapted from the music I was listening to prior.

The answer to this is easier than you think... just start.
Don't worry about getting started... just put a pencil on a piece of paper and start moving it around.
You don't have to like the first thing that comes out. If it's terrible after a few minutes, crumple it up and put your pencil on a second piece of paper.
Repeat process.
This WILL get your juices flowing. The only reason you can't get started is because you're pre-occupied with worrying you can't get started. :P
The key is to just start whatever you're doing.. and push your way through that worrying bullshit. After a while you will get distracted by the doodling and your mind stops focusing on the fact that you don't know how to start drawing what you actually wanted to draw.
Does this make any sense?

I find inspiration everywhere.... mainly from people, dreams and music, though. Anything that stirs up images in my head.... which is just about everything.

Art is ultimately about interpretation-- interpretation of an emotion, a story, a concept, etc... Often, when I'm stuck, I just think of what's been on my mind lately, find a new way to interpret it, and find some way to express that interpretation. Always try thinking of things in new ways. Make sense?

Drink tea, have little food in your stoumach, and look at other art. This always helps me.
-------------------- What if everything around you Isn't quite as it seems? What if all the world you think you know, Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection, Is it all you want it to be?
