At Sporechicks it says they ship same day or next day they had my order for 10 days before was shipped. Any ideas on the jars being dried out from sitting in the box and what might cure the problem

No they sat in the 10 days before innoc in a dry box in a dry house and now its been 10 days since innoc and only 8-10 are showing signs of growth, and some are only white spots the size of an eraser

Sounds pretty fishy.......

these eraser size spots are under innoc points. so I'm guessing its the right stuff. Has this ever happened to anyone else , the eraser size spots, and could this be because the jars might have dried out some

So yo don't think that they might have dried out. The tomp was 70- 75 the first week now the electric blanket keeps it 85. I'm just concerned that so few jars show life 2-3 look 1/3 to 1/2 colonized.5-6 have a few few spots and the other 40 show nothing. doesn't look like any have contams . Has anyone had any experience adding water to jars? I was thinkinking of sterilized water and needle maybe 10cc's using oven tek

Snakeboy? Did you let your jars cool before inoculating them?

dosen't seem like anyoone is helping so, here's my advice, sacrafice one jar, open it up and see if it is dry or not.

this is probably your best bet, Good luck

has anyone heard of adding water to a dry substrate jar ? Just wondering because only 8-10 of the 48 are showing signs of life. Ithink its dry myself I have forced hot air heat out here in sticks of Maine and winter is just starting to let up here

I injected 8-10 cc of water to a few of jars that were dried out (compared to the others innoc'ed at the same time). The mycelium proceeded to flourish, and catch up with the others (most ready to birth in about a week). Also, if your substrate is dry, make sure it isn't packed into the jars too hard is well. I also had to remove some substrate from some jars that were laggards and didn't have enough air pockets for the mycelium to colonize.

I took the lids off, stirred up the substrate w/faint mycelial growth, and injected the water evenly throughout the jar. To reduce contams, you may want to leave lids on and use the innoc. points.

A lot of jars are showing nosign of life we opened 1 as was suggested it was hmf and looked fairly damp and somewhat compact. Any suggestions to make something happen rather than nothing.

well if it is damp and compact then you might not get anything out of em, or it will take a long time. Most of the time if a sub. is mixed (quantities) incorrectly the excess h20 will sink to the bottom and will cause that portion of the jar to remain uncolonized. I remember a few people way back heated there jars abit (lids loosened) to evaporate some of the h20. try and loosen them and leav it for a few days, maybe 4 and then check 1 jar too see if it is dryer if so tighten the lids up and wait. I really can't say much more except, to be careful next time.

The sub. should be lightly/loosely "sprinkled" into the jars, and its better to use less water then too much so take off about 5-10ml of h20 from your next batch.

good luck

Today 10 jars were randomy selected opened w/ oven tek dumped out dry verm stirred up sub mix added about 10cc's sterile honey water.then put a new dry verm layer on. Put tinfoil on loosely then put back in rubbermaid tub and wrapped in elec blanket for 85 degree temp, will wait a week to see what happens. 5 had growth here and there the rest nothing. They were innoc'd 11 days ago and they looked fairly unmoist
