Pinning
    #2912601 - 07/21/04 04:18 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I've been having problems getting my pans to pin the first flush. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th I have no problem. I was curious if I hooked up some kinda Filtered Fan system to force filtered fresh air in if this would help. I'm using a Ultrasonic Humidifier for the humidity. I also drop my temp about 10 degrees. It seems my casings get overlay. Should I put them in the fridge before they get overlay and then pull them out when I'm ready to grow?

I have seen pictures of pans with pins all over. I just can't figure out how they get even pins like that. Should I check PH too?

Thanks

camao

What's your casing layer? I always got overlay using verm/coir, so i stoped using it. I never get overlay on verm/peat/lime casings, so i retuned to that method. To get even pins just patch as needed untill your casing is pepered. Then innitiate pinning by giving it light. Some cold chock once peppered, but i never have and get good results.

I'm using Verm/peat. I think my peat has lime already mixed in it. I do lower temp and add light 12 hours on 12 off, when the mycelium is just at the top of the layer. I'm using about a 2 inch thick casing. My casing takes about 4 or 5 days to get to this stage. Every time I get mushrooms to pop up I do something different. I never know what I did to get them to pin. I document everything aswell. My second flush, I just dunk for 12 and then put a lid over my pan and sit it down in the basement till mushrooms hit the lid. It works every time. It's just the first flush I can't figure out.
