Do our magic fungi friends have significant nutritional value?

I don't know about psychedelic ones specifically, but regular mushrooms are very rich in "trace elements" like zinc, selenium and manganese, which are supposed to prevent cancer. Plus, wild mushrooms have more trace elements than cultivated ones.

It all depends on the substrate on which the mushroom grows.

So if someone grinds up a vitamin and mixes it with thier substrate, will the mushies have more nutritious goodness?

Yes, because the mycelium will absorb all nutrients that the substrate contains. But, certain vitamins, or minerials might have an adverse effect on the growth of the fungus.

If one grows his or her mushrooms on brown rice flower, then you would have to look no further then the nutritional value of the brown rice. The typical mushroom grown on brown rice will contain protein, fat, dietary fiber, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folacin, Vitamin E, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, and Zinc.

The mycelium will utilize the water, fats, carbohydrates, proteins, and potassium in the substrate to produce it's psychoactive alkaloids. All other vitiamins and minerals will be found in trace amounts in the mushroom itself.

Who ever grows mushrooms should keep this concept in perspective. Not that mushrooms can contain a nutritional value, but rather that the fungus will absorb whatever nutrients and or chemicals that are on and within the substrate. Mostly in the form of water, but water being a solvant, can carry many trace elements. With that being said, the mycelium can easily absorb toxins created by molds and bacteria. This is why it is important not to consume mushrooms from a substrate that has a possible contamination.
