Can spawnmate be applied PRE-sterilization? I have some that is getting old, and I am worried it isnt the cleanest stuff after sitting around...I have always just dusted the casings w/ it while spawning them. Yes, I PC my compost (and have for many years w/ no probs at all) and was wondering if the Spawnmate can be "cooked" in there or if it HAS TO BE applied "cold" or post-pasteur./sterilization. Thanks for any help.
I have PC'd spawnmate before with success. It definitely should be sterilized or pasteurized.
What was your technique for placing it in the casing? I usually put it in the substrate but this past week I mixed it in a coco coir casing layer and pasteurized it.. seems to be working quite well but I'll have to wait until fruiting and later flushes..
-------------------- Looking for:
Ps. weilii, Ps. samuiensis, Ps. hispanica, Pan. cyanescens (any strain I don't have)
Ps. cubensis, Ps. tampanensis, Pan. cyanescens (Australian, Tai-KS, Hawaiian, Jamaican, Ban Lipa Noi)
I usually apply it when I spawn the straw/compost. I just dust a little on and shake the tray to get some down deeper. Never had any probs w/ contams. I HAVE applied some to the casing too. I usually use coir/verm/perlite/lime- and sometimes dust that w/ SM. I just found another bag of it, and was a little concerned because it was open, and gettin' a bit old.. BTW, where is it avail. these days?
