Hey folks,
Well at the moment pinning has occured (day 27 since syringe innoculation)
Ryche instructed just to leave the kits alone, which I did not do. With alot of water on the surface I soaked it up and tinked around here and there, but overall I think I slowed things up, these kits should really be left alone to do their thing.
I will post pics and info of first flush when its complete.
Hang in there, I'm here every day!

My dungbrothers kit isnt doin well at all, The bags of grain are taking way longer than what it says in the instructions. It could be the syringes, but i got them from PF.

TreeofLife,
Here is a thought.. PF grows his mushrooms out over and over on rice and verm. I'm not here to put down PF, so dont anybody go there. But he is stuck on his pf tek and that is the way he grows. When you buy spores from him, those strains are use to being grown out on rice cakes over and over. This is one way degeneration of a strain occurs.
We use a variety of grains. Sometimes we use finch seed (millet based)/rice/flax , sometimes just finch seed grains, sometimes rye grain, sometimes rye berries grain, occaisionally wheat grain, and they all end up on DB compost these days.
What I'm getting at, is our spores are adapted to a variety of grains, and growing conditions, not just rice cakes all the time. Other spores suppliers such as sporeworks and sporechicks use a variety of grains as well. It may take you a couple of runs of growing those strains from PF out on different subtrates other then rice for them to
develop better growth characteristics on other grains then rice.
Right now your seeing slow growth on rye grain, as you will also see once they hit the compost. The mycelium is expending twice the normal energy because those cub strains are not adapted to those grains or compost.. Its going to take some time for their enzymes to adjust to the new substrate.
I would be willing to bet, you wont see phenomial results on the compost using those spores. But you should still get some nice flushes.

Toadlicker,
Its not a great picture at the moment, it would be better to wait until first flush develops BUT here is a shot of the pins on the edges first appearing. I took off the side tape per Ryches instructions.
Day 28 since syringe innoculation.

yeah, ive been having na problem too with my grains colonizing. This time theyer the B+ strain. I innoculated them a week ago today, and there's no signs of growth on 3 of the bags. One of the bags is completely covered in some sort of green mold. I dont know what Im doing wrong here. the temps are anywhere from 65-75 degrees. What should i do?
