Sorry, but there is no right or wrong.
    #2909494 - 07/20/04 07:37 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Yes there are rules, but even those arent right or wrong. Even if someone gets hurt, it cant be right or wrong..

Name anything, and there can be absolutely nothing that is absolutely, ultimately, right, or wrong.

There is not one person in this world that can say either this, or that is wrong either. There will always be a contradiction no matter what beleif you have of the world, and a contradiction of the contradiction of thr contracdiction......it never ends. And there is no right or wrong:)

I myself, cannot even proove that even this is right or wrong, and neither can any of you.

Any thaughts?

Sorry, but you are wrong!

yeah, no, I completely understand and agree with you.
This might end up leaning into 'objective morals' and absolute truth...

What are your opinions on mathematics and Boolean logic? An instructor of mine mentioned that it was recently proven mathematics could not solely have an arbitrary basis. I just wish I'd asked what he meant and for a reference. I'll probably ask when I get a chance in the winter.

If Boolean logic was non-arbitrary then every computer would work differently.

Yes there are rules, but even those arent right or wrong.

What appears right for one, may be perceived as wrong relative to another... That is truth.

Using my limited understanding of the concept, and so, as a result, not refering to absolutes, per se,  if right and wrong can be incorporated near the boundaries of truth, then as one steps back from that boundary, the gradient differentiation appears to be only that of less truth.

[ I'm trying to use this English-prime technique.. So please bear with me if the way I say use the language appears to be as clear as mud..  :tongue2:]

I'm attempting to refrain from using the word 'lie'..  For even an illusion, due to perceptive limitations, although not conforming to what one regards as 'normal' observed truth, does not resemble a lie.  It appears true.

[How am I doing?  It even appears that I am confusing myself here.. ... Just trying to be funny..]

So,  I am trying to convey that the gradient bounded by the absolutes, known as Absolute truth and the Realm of Lies, appears to be ALL right.

Only as one steps outside of the boundaries and submerges one's self  into the Realm of Lies would things, then,  become very WRONG..

You're right, there is no right or wrong. I tend to base my beliefs and actions on whether they are positive or negative.

I agree. Ultimately we are all animals, in the sense that if we behaved like the other life on this planet then stealing, raping would be right in order for survival.

Society has created something we call morality which I think stems mainly from religion. I understand that it would be horrible if we did live like animals but I can't help thinking there is no right and wrong its just a way of controlling the masses.

Ultimately: Why do you beleive in morality or not?
It is probably cultural programming or religious spiritual belief if you are moral. If not then maybe you can see beyhond it all like me.

Wouldnt an animal rape another by pinning another one down or making it impossible for it to escape, to be rape?.

I used to consider this true until we had a similar thread here sometime last year and my folly was demonstrated as such. In fact, there are moral absolutes.

I think it can be broken down most simply by saying that initiating force - ie. doing something to someone against their will - is wrong. Except when force is initiated in response to force.

I believe the concept of moral relativism is flawed. Though certainly there are grey areas, they aren't as pervasive as many seem to think.

I've been recently convinced that there is a right and wrong. I used to not believe it, but now I do. Our cells age, we are interwoven into the fabric of space and time, we are in some form, both good and evil. I don't believe the bible literaly, but the story of our life is these stories. It is mythology and folklore. If you don't think there is right and wrong, go talk to a demon or an angel. I can't recall one conversation I've ever had with one, but ya know now I have to say that they are there. To me, this extra sensory world of spirits is either something so complex and strange we could never get right, or it is exactly what we know, that good and evil are as real as we are.

Nothing is right or wrong in what context? Right and wrong are merely human perceptions of what goes on, nothing more, nothing less. It's my thought that all morality is bullshit anyway, and right and wrong are just limiting perceptions, but if it a person believes there is right and wrong, then it is real to their mindset. To the overall universe, of course it's not real, if it doesn't have an ego it cannot judge, so therefore there is no right and wrong to the waves and energy that is around us
