Does anyone else not like this band as much as I do? Fucking hell, especially the singer. Damn they're annoying. And they're back with a new cd now.  :mad2:

hey now, i like the hives!

and what's this about "the only band.. out of that genre"?

you mean rock and roll? or do you mean the "genre" consisting of the vines, the hives, and the strokes? (because the latter isn't really a true option at all :smirk:)

I definitely wouldn't put them in the punk category..

it's more like retro garage rock

And I agree, most of it sucks ass.

I like The Strokes, though..

The Hives rule. They're completely raw.

There isn't a band out currently that I like more. Can't wait to hear the new album.

the hives arent punk or alternative at all... theyre retro wanna-be bullshit... look at some old videos of the who and youll see who theyre posing as. just biting an original style in another decade to make it look like their own. stage gimmicks like dancing around like rod stewart and holding the mic like.... like that. FUCKING LAME. im sorry. i just cant stand when musical ability is compromised for lame corybantics. just.... lame. theyre gonna be forgotten about in 10 years.

Fucking lame, eh?

Why must a musician be limited to music, and not performance?

besides which, I like them too.
I don't think they're the greatest band or anything like that, but I like them a hell of a lot more than the strokes and vines.

redo : that is NOT punk... punk is the casualties, circle jerks, subhumans... they are NOT punk. no way... no fuckng how.

morrowind : a musician doesnt have to be limited, and not to performance... pink floyd put a better performance than anyone.. but their music was spectacular to back it up. when you show no musical talent, and only rely your performance, you SHOULDNT fucking record a CD... cause then its just the crappy music. i saw them on pepsi smash (just shows you what kind of corporate bullshit teeny magazine band they are) and they SUCKED... sure, they danced around great... but if i closed my eyes, all id have left is crappy music.

Wow.. his vocals are mixed high, which allows you to really clearly hear how he can't sing at all.. heh.

It's pretty funny really..

Edit: Scratch that, HILARIOUS. Priceless. His backup vocalist shows him up so bad, and all the kid says is "come in come in come in"

You guys are insane.

The Hives are a breath of fresh air on the rock scene. Thank god for The Hives and Jet among others being played on mainstream radio.

How can anyone call them a rip off? Name one band that doesn't suck who doesn't sound like anyone. It's impossible. It's all been done.

they rip off OLDer bands. its really funny, cause today, the hives were actually on david letterman. and my mom was fipping through the channels, and come to it and was like "whos this?" "what? he's just ripping off McJagger(sp?)" "I saw all this stuff decades ago" hahaha... she said "McJagger should sue him for stealing all his dance moves" and what do you mean good thank god theyre played on the radio? OF COURSE THEYRE PLAYED ON THE RADIO! theyre a fucking coporate band.

Coporate big-wig "hey, wear some suits while you play and we'll make you famous."
The Hives "Ok, heres my soul."

bands that dont suck who doesnt sound like anyone?
Tool
Dredg
Placebo
Opeth
Dream Theatre
A Perfect Circle
Nine Inch Nails
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sublime
Radiohead
Kenna

do you want me to go on?

Wow...Errm. Ok. Such a sensless topic as this is, I guess I can bash a little.
Anyone know what's wrong with the media these days?..For one, shit cop-out bands such as The Hives airing on MTV and every other corrupt station that puts the idea into our heads that we can fuckin start with a couple of good looks, a decent guitar, and mainstream glamour, make millions and drain the pockets of poor souls who've forgotten what music acutally used to be..(which was worth listening to)
There's nothing else really worth saying..If you like bands that all sound a like, and have no originality- then sure..Let's debate. Otherwise, the bands preformance and sound speaks for itself.

I think there's all but two people in disagreement with that. And you two *peer pressure give in give in peer pressure*. Let's fake a smile, eh ;D

What makes them "corporate rock"? They put out at least two albums before they made it big and I think they're still on Epitaph Records which isn't corporate. Tool, NIN, Radiohead and A Perfect Circle have yet to put out a non-mainstream album. Am I right?

How can you not like someone because they're influenced by Mick Jagger? The same goes for about a million bands who were good in their own right. The New York Dolls were VERY influenced by The Stones and they went on to influence an entire genre of music themselves.

The Hives are everything I like about a rock band. I love them.

it doesnt have to do with whether the label you are on is some big company or not. it has to do with SELLING you image. NIN,Radiohead, and Tool are on mainstream record companies, but they hold on to their artistic integrity. More than that, they gain more artist integrity the further they go... without selling their image. Hell, Tool is probobly a record company's worst nightmare. And I'm sure some those suits shat their pants after hearing radiohead's experimental Kid A.

The Hives' shit all sounds the same. And they can't play their fucking instruments... thats the worst problem i have with them. Cause, sure they had CDs out before they got big, until some scout found them and thought they'd be ideal for selling to the teen masses.
And now they're a big band that CAN'T PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS for shit, while there are so many amazing artists out there, starving on the fucking streets. it just makes me sick. I mean, every time i see them on TV, they cant fucking even play in time.

No offense dude, but you sound like a guy who is bitter about being a talented musician who hasn't made it. "Musical talent" has nothing to do with weither music is good. A good song is a good song is a good song.

"Louie Louie" is a great song, yet it's extremely easy to play. There are thousands of heavy metal songs out there which are very difficult to play but suck.

Dokken were a band who could play their instruments very well. The Ramones were a band who "couldn't play" their instruments well. Yet The Ramones are a thousand times better than Dokken.

hey... im talking about talent in making a good song. Which the Hives doesnt have. Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Radiohead. Great songs. Very Original songs. Not necessarily difficult to play at all. But they're very talented in making those songs. And theres tons of bands that make great songs but aret given a chance to be heard cause they dont fit the media's image of what a popular band's supposed to be.

they're not given a chance to be heard? NIN was pretty damn mainstream a while ago, and radiohead was on the top a bunch 10 last year. Tool, well, i doubt they'd even want to be spread into the mainstream
