Safe to eat?
    #2907612 - 07/20/04 07:51 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Well, I got 8 decent sized shroms from my first flush. My only problem is that I didn't dry 3 of them thoroughly enough and grey mold grew on the shrooms. I would like to eat them today, but I am not sure if it is safe or not. Sorry, no camera, but the mushies have a light dusting of greyish mold on them that appeared last night. I scraped it off and am now fan-drying them. As long as there is no serious risk in eating them, I'm gonna say fuck it and down em. What do y'all think?

Most people do eat mouldy food from time to time. It is actually better that than the fact that most of the meat you consume is half rotten.

I have seen this mold before, I have had it after getting dried mushrooms wet once. I ate them without problem but I that does not mean your mushrooms is safe. I am no expert on this field.

Moldy food doesn't make you trip, nor does it cost +$50 and a month of your time to grow. And if it did make you trip, I bet I wouldn't be the only one asking if it was safe to eat or not.

I said that in the context to the quality of produce you eat. I equate all foods to the same level. What's more, to bang out 3 oz of dry shrooms is about $1 AUD, approx. 70 cents USD on cased grain including the verm/coir used. Even less per the unit return on bulk. Not $50. All up, one's health is pricessless, getting high isn't. Not me btw who left his shrooms to mould. :smirk:

I agree that your health is more important, hence why I asked you guys and didn't just eat 'em. Didn't mean to sound caustic, but I was a little perturbed at the thought of losing half of my meager crop. Apon thinking about it, I don't think a little bit of mold is enough to hurt me, at the worst I will just spew. And between $5 for verm, $4 for brf, $8 for jars (most of which contamned and were chucked out), $2 for a spray bottle, $4 for a rubbermaid case, $12 for a syringe, $3 for shipping, $5 for perlite and $22 for a temp/humidity guage, the total for this project was $65, plus tax, give or take a couple bucks. Not .70 cents. Still worth it tho.  Well, I got mush tea to drink.
