This is going slow but temperatures are cool. Bit too much moisture at the base of the cakes.

Not a semp.

Those cakes look delicious! How did you know when to birth the cakes? Did you soak them after birthing?

Pulled ‘er. Attempting a couple prints. The swabs are nice and dark so I’m hopeful. I’ll be growing more of these for sure

Nice. Let them drop for a while. My avatar is a 4 day old semperviva cap that shrank around the print.

Got another qt ready I’ll be spawning soon.. trying to consolidate it a little bit in the jar. They didn’t like the peat casing I put on. I used a 60/40 peat/verm (my cube recipe). I think it was too thick. I’m gonna go with Melgo’s and FP’s recommendation this time and make sure it’s definitely below FC and just go top layer. They really only fruited from the edges where there wasn’t casing.
Chasing that canopy I see y’all post

I've got two tubs of Semp going here (2nd/last attempt with genetics received several months ago). I spawned them on 12/12 and let them colonize 100% and waited another 6-7 days before casing them with 2:1 peat/verm on 12/27.
How long after casing does pinning typically occur?

Haha how long was the spawn 💯 before spawning?
Ive noticed a faster pinset with a well consolidated jar.
Also a dryer casing until pins .
Did you adjust your peat/verm casing
If nothing shows it may help to let dry out a tad, then give a decent watering.
Some time there's no rhyme or reason and they just do what they want when they want.
If you need a new culture hmu.

I let the spawn consolidate for 3-4 days after reaching 100%. The initial substrate was probably not as dry as it should have been, but I think the casing was on the dryer side of field capacity. Yes, I adjusted the casing with gypsum and hydrated lime. I think I'm just going to wait on it a few days and see if it figures it out. I greatly appreciate the offer, but I already have a new culture from another user that will be ready to put to grain in the next week. Sometimes I think I'm getting better at being patient, and then there's times like this lol
