My lab
    #2906637 - 07/19/04 10:30 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Here's a couple pics of my lab. Its a small closet in my apartment, primarily designed as a computer office. I'm pretty happy with it as a lab.

First pic is a picture looking inside the door.

Second Pic below is my flowhood. Its been posted here before, if it seems familiar to you. I bought the top metal part from a guy locally that I found on eBay. It was on a conveyer belt thing, and he said it was used to cool LCDs for the military. Anyway, from him I bought 2 24" x12" HEPA and 2 24"x12" carbon filters and the unit from him for a very modest price. Since then I have bought another 24" square HEPA off eBay. Its amazing the deals you can find on ebay. The winning price on the new filter was $9.50, but with shipping it came to ~$50. I am thinking about tearing down the metal unit and making a horizontal laminar flow hood 4' feet long by 2' high by putting the two filters together. We'll see. I'll need another fan, and the filters are not the same, so that might be trouble.

Theres 100 quart jars on the rack. The top thirty are p. ostreatus, the middle shelf has Lions Mane, Shiitake, Elm Oyster, Morchella Angesticeps, and Reishi. The bottom shelf has 30 quarts of King Oyster. The Reishi, Elm Oyster and P. Oyster are ready to spawn tomorrow. The P. Oyster will go into 6 straw logs 5' tall and 10" layflat diamater. The reishi and Elm Oyster will be going into woodchip bags. All that is going on tomorrow.

The P. ostreatus and P. Eryngii are commercial. The others are either personal or experimental.

Are the jars on the rack kept at room temperature for incubation?  What is the room temp?

Any shots of the fruiting chamber?  Lab looks great

Gee Golly Whiz! If I tried to take on that much at once I would either A) Go Insane or B) Get served divorce papers. I envy whatever lifestyle you lead which allows such ludricrous amounts of "play-time".

Where can I get those jars shown on the third picture? Is there any weblink where I could order them?

They are simply Quart canning jars. Ball and Kerr are the major manufacturers in the US. I picked most them up second hand on the cheap. I used jarsbecause I was having trouble with bag blowouts. Roughly 5 quarts fill a large sized mycobag.
