Shaking casings
    #2906411 - 07/19/04 08:47 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Hi everyone.  When you case with vermiculite, it tends to be sort of loose on the top--that's if I've got the moisture right.  So, isn't a good indicator of the mycelium colonizing the casing just up to the surface, when the vermiculite in more or less stable, as the mycelium has colonized it and is holding it together?  Thanks!

GB

I think a good indicator is seeing the mycelium....look for some pictures and you will see what a properly colonized casing looks like...

Thanks. Yeah, I know what it should look like, and I've seen pics of overlay. I'm sorry, I guess my question gave the impression I was looking for a way to tell if it's colonized without seeing mycelium. I was just asking if, once the mycelium has popped up in a couple of places, and the vermiculite is essentially "stable," this would be an indicator that one would not patch, but, instead fruit it, as the mycelium is just below the surface holding the vermiculite bits together.
