These black caps are just like that too except there's barely anything attached to the stipe. I love it. Have had so many others that will take craters out of sub.

I've tried eating them fresh, dried, ground & in caps, ground + lemon tek + tea....

I really do like the lemon tek versions because the takeoff is faster and it tends to be easier on the stomach. What are some of your preferred ways to consume mushrooms?

Ground in caps and tea.  I like to cook with fresh mushrooms too.  Smooths the come up and levels out the peak.

This right here. Cooking mushrooms, especially in savory dishes, makes them so much more palatable. I don’t even do tea any more, I do broth. The salt works much better than sweet to mask the flavor. I find cooked to be easier on the GI tract as well.

I've had one experience with cooked shrooms. 10/10 would do again. Easy to eat, no stomach discomfort, even with the meal. Come up was fast for me, like tea.

Last winter I made baked ravioli and alongside it I made a "magic" version in a single serving pyrex. It was a 13g fresh penis envy fruit (so maybe 1 grab dried?) that I sliced into chips and tucked in with the spinach. Cooked and then froze it for a few months until I was ready.

I had baked it for an hour or more (probably at 350°), and the sauce was bubbling hard so I expected some potency loss, but I don't think that happened because that dish whooped my ass!

It came on swift, in twenty minutes, and I couldn't even finish my post-meal ciggie, I had to run a bath and put on tunes for an hour  It was intense, but it was also a clean experience.

Highly recommend :awesomenod:

Kinda hard to describe, but it’s definitely my favorite mushroom at the moment. Hen of the woods :0

All I know is I really have to find someone with a pizza oven to make me a maitake, bacon, artichoke pizza. Because they absolutely scream to be put on pizza.

You don't need a pizza oven, just a good baking stone or baking steel and a regular household oven. And a good dough of course, but the best ones are simple - flour, water, salt, and yeast or sourdough culture. Ken Forkish has a book called Elements of Pizza that's excellent (and though it's an American cookbook, the measures are all by weight and in grams so it's easy to be consistent).

Can vouch for a high quality stone helping out.  When you heat up an oven to full blast, wait until it reaches temp and let it sit for 20-30 mins.  That will really make sure it's blistering hot in there.  Slip the pizza in as fast as you can and get that oven closed again, seconds matter with heat retention.  If you pre heat it long enough and move deftly enough you can make a good pizza in a home oven.

Have you eaten a bunch of different mushrooms cooked various ways?

Only like the really popular types everyone usually tries prepared in any number of simple ways. But the mushroom taste itself.... like you know when you taste something and you say "oh this will pair great with such and such " even if you dont like to eat them on their own. But I haven't ever felt that way for a mushroom yet. I just don't like the taste of the ones I've tried yet I think.

There's this one my wife keeps trying to get me to grow, she swears it has hints of apricot and when I looked up it's Wikipedia page sure enough in it's description it compared to apricots. But when I looked up how to grow it it seemed genuinely nightmarish. I forget the name but it starts with a "C"... lol

Hen of the woods because it has a chicken taste or an egg taste perhaps?

I'm down to try anything once, I just gotta find a place that sells all these strange different shrooms straight up so I can try em before I waste money growing something I'm not sure I'll love in the end here:)

Chicken of the woods tastes chickeny. Hen of the woods tastes… pizza-y. But not like it tastes like pizza. But like it would be good on pizza. It tastes like… flavor

I really enjoyable way I like to eat them is to sautee them, medium to low heat, in butter or oil, and eat with pasta.

Now you can flavor the mushrooms and pasta in a lot of ways, sometimes I like garlic and onion, or some fresh herbs.  I almost always dress with EVOO, but you can do rice and dress with soy sauce, soy oil, or even coconut oil and shrimp.

I usually add a little sauteed chicken, because I like it a lot, some fresh grated cheese like Romano or Parmesan or both for zing.

It works well for a lot of shrooms's.

But Seriously there are a ton of recipes and cooking is not hard if you want.

The main thing is salt.  If you don't like the way it tastes you (usually) didn't add enough salt,  most dont.  I salt everything  the pasta water, the sautee and the dish, cracked pepper goes great too as garnish.
