Modular mushroom farm.

I found this link today; the system looks pretty sweet, albeit too expensive for most of us.

it's really not that expensive if your going to commit to it. granted it is a steep startup but even if their figures are off by 20% you'd still come out on top. it's not that hard to find an investor if you have a solid business plan and some social skill.

i have mixed feeling about there co-opish business model (IOW, i'm sure it works great for them but no guarantee it will work out for you). there are a few figures i would dispute such as only needing 1 part time helper or the diminishing returns of delivery. it's a simple fact that production to that degree would require either a monolithic consumer/exporter or several scattered deliveries.

one of the points they make seems understated:
Quote:

his person is financially secure and lives on a hobby farm on the outskirts of town and wants something to do 2 or 3 days per week

i'd say these requirements are more than crucial.

I agree that the system is beautifully engineered, comes with technical support - all for a relatively reasonable price, but for those of us with mushroom growing experience, we could make do with a cheaper system for a fraction of the cost. As for complete systems, CropKing is inexpensive, but not nearly as sexy (and modular) as the previous unit.

The co-opish model is popular in the Vancouver-ish area. I?m not about to try it at my end of the country!

I like the idea of shipping containers for (temporary) spawn rooms.
