Are these good subwoofers?
    #2905728 - 07/19/04 05:04 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Kicker CVR10 2003 Comp VR Subwoofers 10"
I seen these on ebay im think of getting them, but im not sure what makes these comp vr subs different then the regular kickers. What specs should I look for in a good subwoofer and what specs should I look for in an amp to power two of these. I dont necessarly want 10' ones I think 8' would probably be pretty good also.

Here are the specs on those:

Impedance: 4 Ohms
Maximum Amplifier Power: 300 Watts each 600 Watts for the Pair!
Sensitivity: 89.5 dB
Frequency Response: 25-500 Hz
Mounting Depth: 4 3/4 Inches
Mounting Hole Diameter: 9 1/8 Inches
Minimum Recommended Sealed Box Volume: .8 cubic ft.
Maximum Recommended Sealed Box Volume: 1.2 cubic ft.
auction is for 2 brand new Kicker Comp VR 10 Inch Subwoofers.
is the 4 Ohm dual voice coil version of the woofer.
is a pair of most versatile woofers! These Can be wired at 8,4, and 2 ohm loads

These are going for $115 for the pair.
How much are those infinitys? I still have to buy the amp and the box. I spent $550 for my deck and the 4 6.5' memphis speakers, and I dont really want to spend too much more.

theyre not very strong 10's but theyre decent

10's are good for a lot of bump

12's are better for the "earth" effect..

the price seems right though..

Well i bought these, came to about $150 for the pair after shipping. I looked around on the internet and these were about $120 a piece. I need to buy a box and an amp. The thing says I need a box with about 1 cubic foot of space per speaker, that should be easy enough. Now I just need an amp, all those numbers and channels and shit make no sense to me. So a little help would be appreciated. Thanks

What the fuck is a channel? How many of those do I need for 2 speakers? 600 watts should be enough fot those two subs listed above?
Should I maybe hook all my speakers up to an amp? Here is the deck I have now
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-UYji3I4TeWe/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=133C8100&search=cq+8100

it has 50watts per speaker

what the fuck is 'earth effect'

Seriously, shut up.

10's will not go as low as a 12".  The point of nice speakers is to have a flat response curve so the music sounds 'as intended by the artist' and not all out of whack beacuse you turned you bass to +6 and your treble to -8 while you bump around in your caddie playing G-UNIT or some such bullshit.

a 12" moves more air then a 10, therefore, can get louder while remaining 'flat' on its notes.

Which subs did you buy?

Link me to the memphis speakers you bought also. Chances are for nice performance you have to put those on an amp as well.

These are the subs I bought.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

I got my other speakers from a store and had them installed, I dont have the box handy so I dont know the model number, but they are memphis 6.5" speakers they have a little cone thing on the front that moves so you can point in the direction you want.

You need an amp that pushes out about 400 to 600 watt RMS @ 4 ohm's.

Or, a monoblock sub amp that pushes the same sort of power that is STABLE to 1ohm bridged(mono)

Thats good. Because I would have to actually teach you something about how audio works, why speakers push like they do, etc etc etc and you obviously dont want to learn.

Not a very nice one.

Look for the JBL 600.1 monoblocks. mono meaning single channel.

Its a Class D amplifier, puts out very low heat, is designed for sub use (distorts on higher frequencies so youwouldnt use it on your frontstage)

It should put out 600rms @ 1 or 2 ohm stable. around 300rms @ 4 ohm. But with those subs you can wire them in parallel for a 1 ohm load.

Ok I think i understand this now. Channels are how many speakers you can plug into the amp, and bridging is sending two channels to one speaker?

If I get a 1 channel amp will it power both speakers?

Yeah.

2 channels = one RIGHT, one LEFT
4 channels = two RIGHT two LEFT

Brigding channels alters the amount of power you get by joining the positive from one channel and using the negative on another.

If you get the JBL I talked about, its a monoblock, single channel. Its bridged internally so you dont have to do it yourself. Its designed for subs.

Then you wire all the coils in parallel which will give you a 1 ohm load to the amp and they all run off that single channel, sharing the power.

600RMS from the amp = 300RMS for each sub, which is what they claim to want.
