Yeah, you can say that again. I guess that's why things are going so damn slow. Any advice on how I could remedy the situation or should I just wait it out. Thanks!

do you think that holds true for both the casing phase and the jar phase? i always wondered why the PF tek called out for the finer stuff.

I've wondered the same thing. Has anyone tried using different sizes of verm for colonization? What worked best?

miles ahead of u miles....hehe..... i did 24 jars with the fine verm ,and 24 with coarse... the bigger verm is faster. i injected with eq spores, and the coarser finished a week before the finer verm did...

thanks carmex. i am going to do my experiment anyways, just because i don't know how fine your fine verm was and how coarse your coarse verm was.
question: did you case? if yes, did you case the fine verm'd cakes with fine verm in the casing and vice versa for the coarse?
last question :) did you notice any difference in yield?
thanks so much for the input, i have been wondering about this for a few months now !!

well i just cased 2 cakes yesterday so its to early to tell. ill have to back to 2about the yeild...its my opinion that coarser is better. think about it...take a peice of coarse verm and put a drop of water on it....acts just like a sponge.....i think it retains water better therefore si better for cultivation.

Grower- your jars may stall, if you dont see any growth increase in a week just start over, cant really remedy it after its in the jar.

I only use fine verm for everything, casing and jars. For some reason I can never get the even pinset that I get with 50/50 when casing though.

I think you guys mean that there is MORE surface area with the finer verimculite. This leads to a possible explanation that perhaps fine carries too much water and the bigger vermiculite gives the advantage of "just enough" water and also air pockets which may help speed colonization(?). I have used coarse vermiculite my entire time, but i put it in a bowl, take handfuls and rub it hard between my palms. this gives you fine verm when it breaks up and big verm because you can choose to leave as many big pieces as you want. or just toss in an extra handful of big stuff.

I`m convinced the larger verm is better and I`ll tell you why. Increased aeration, these jars need to breath and fine verm with flour is just to dense. Give me big verm and chunky rice.

thanks funny. I dont know, thisis my first time but, i used fine style with the cambo strain, since 3/30/01 jars are 80% colonized, so the fine works i supose.
