Found these along side the road while walking to work. They're probably not psychoactive, but I'd be interested in knowing what they are. Found in Ohio.

Further Info [Re: kief]

Habitat: They were found growing in Ohio, in a combination of soil and wood chips.

Cap: Flat, very light brown, thin (you could see the gills through the top). Actually, it looks like it has gills on the top and the bottom of the cap. Is that possible? About 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

Stem: About 3 1/2 inches, white, thin, hollow.

Gills: brown, attached.

Scent: Typical, mushroom scent. I dunno.

No veil. I don't know how to make a spore print.

As it dried, the gills turned black (top and bottom) and the stem remained white.

I hope this helps. It'd be great if I just happened upon some good shrooms on the way to the office!

From the habitat and the looks, I think it may be some sort of Coprinus. There aren't gills on the top, it's just so thin that you can see the gills through the surface. Coprinus mushrooms are fragile and will turn to inky goo after a little while. When you say the gills turned black, it could be that the edges began to diliquiesce and dry out. Nothing too interesting.

My inclination is to go with Psathyrella. Psathyrella candolleana has been coming up in a lot of places over the past few weeks, and they resemble that species.

Happy mushrooming!
