i need some help from someone that knows about cactii
    #2904952 - 07/19/04 11:03 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

so my little lophophora williamsii came in the mail today and i realised that i hadnt even looked up what to do with it! i know, it was stupid and i should have checked before ordering. looking around now i cant find any pages that explain how to take care of the little thing in the state that its in. its just a small 1.5cm one but it had a inch and a half root on it. what ive done is just placed it in a shot glass with some coco coir. the coir was straight out of the bag, no water added as the coir had some moisture in it already. hopefully what ive done is ok. im going to make sure it gets plenty of sunlight. sorry if this isnt the right place but i really didnt know where else to put it

Firsties, dont let it get too much sunlight, since it's still a baby and all. It would do you alot of good if you read everything on the subject you could find. Second, heres a link to some classic cactus soils... You may even wanna consider grafting such a small specimine....

Another thing, plant that baby in a container that provides good drainage like a clay pot.

A shot glass has no drain holes and your cactus will rot if you water it too much.

If it was me i would either graft it or plant it right away in a definitive pot (with an appropriate soil mixture)...

Good Luck and please take good care of that baby cactus!

that soil looks very wet. way too wet. also looks like peat or coco earth type stuff, very good at holding water. thats the stuff i use in bog/rainforest vivariums for frogs. the first thing i would do is take it out and put it in somthing dry. i use a clay/soil mix with coarse sand/crushed rock mixed in.

man, vases need a drainage hole in the bottom! get it a decent vase, put some stones in the bottom, fill with good dirt and plant your plant...
