Brain-locked and scrambling to escape
    #2904933 - 07/19/04 10:55 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Maybe it's my erratic sleep schedule, maybe it's the surges of caffeine in my brain, but I feel like I'm in a slump of some kind at this particular moment.

So what do you do to jump start your creativity if you're faced with an impass?

Elle, if you find out the answer, please let me know. I've had such a creative stifle lately, and I always tell myself: the only thing to do is WRITE. Write anything. Write your name a thousand times until something else comes out. Just the act of putting text to paper is enough, it doesn't really matter what you're writing..sometimes I get so upset with what I write, thinking it's crap, that I just stop...but really, maybe you have to bleed the bad stuff out before the golden stuff can flow, right?

Here's one of the last things I wrote...

"border wars." (about a girl, not a drug called acid)

lucy is an anagram for words that don?t exist-
see, she speaks in her own language,
reinventing every minute.
like me, lucy is amazed at her own transubstantiation
like me, lucy is appalled by definition
but i suppose we?re truly clueless as to one another?s composition
(wrapping her perpetually shiv?r?n fingers tight around my thigh, she says
down by the seaport,
?i wish i could get IN there?)

NOW GO WRITE!

--------------------
Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.

You're "write" of course... (yes, it's a cheesy pun )

I'll do some writing after I get off the treadmill.  Maybe exercising will also help jostle those ideas up in my head.

Okay, sounds like a good idea..and if it doesn't work, put this over your head!

It's amazing...I just spent hours agonizing over an impass with my story, and then just now in a matter of seconds, the solution came to me. Just like *that* I knew what to do.

Inspiration is such a fickle creature.
