Is lipstick contam a common problem?

I have notice everyone posting about green molds. My jars are 6 days old and started showing lipstick contam after about 3 days. So far no contams other than this one. Do most contams spread through air to other jars? What is a good way to cut back on lipstick contaims and the other Red mold.. I am using a brown rice/vermiculite mix.

It depends on alot of factors. Mold is everywhere. It can spread from jar to jar in the air or by an object. To cut back, pressure cook for an hour or longer and keep clean.

also, lipstick mold is fairly rare in jars because it likes protien, I believe.

hmmmm, so maybe im doing something right to just only be getting lipstick mold.. Does the lipstick mold only happen on the top edges or is is come around the mid section of the jars. Also, i have notice red juice starting make specs which i know will grow bigger. This is my first attempt so its a learning experience. I kind of just want to wait it out and watch it grow. Im going to throw the jars out. I only did four and just finished another four with a more thorough innoculation. I used a different cooler and placed it in a totally different room in the house. I have also placed it in a not so high traffic area, (pets, people)
